Last Wednesday, I got my eyes done...no, not plastic surgery, but a version of LASIK called "PRK". Instead of making a flap, they lasered through a layer of cornea and then continued on with the corrective lasering. It went well and surprisingly fast. Once I was all doped up and "Clockwork Oranged", my left eye took a total of 40 seconds and my right eye took 35 seconds. Pretty much have been blurry-blind since then. Pain meds made me sick and sleeping pills made me forget the entire week, so I had that going for me. Mom also came down to help me and to help Jason with Will.
Monday, had to go back to get my bandage contacts removed - contacts without any power - and was told I would be able to drive and go back to work.
So, here was the plan: Mom and Jason were to drop my car off at the eye place when he brought her to the airport on Sunday. Jason to drive me to the eye place Monday morning and then he was to bring Will to school. I was to get my contacts removed, get in my car, drive to work, and then pick up Will to come home.
Here's what happened: Mom and Jason dropped my car off Sunday morning as planned. Jason drove me to the eye place Monday morning. The whole way there, I am saying, "jeez, I cannot see anything. I hope it is the contacts that are gross and I will be able to see better when they are removed..." Got my eyes tested before they remove the contacts. "Please read the smallest line you can see." "Um, I cannot see anything." "Well, try." Seriously? Were my eyes closed? "Alright, looks like a V. And perhaps an E. And the next looks like an N...and lastly, an O?" "Now try the other eye"...with the same slide of letters. "Well, I don't know if I can see them or I just remember them from 2 seconds ago..." "Well, try." "V.E.N.O." "You see that?" "No." So, Nurse Helpful leaves and the eye doc comes in to remove the contacts. I tell him I am really nervous because I really cannot see anything. He removes the contacts and then informs me that my vision will get worse before it gets better because of the removal of these stupid contacts. Now I am looking at this blurry blob I was assuming was the eye doctor and said, "um, you told me I would be able to drive today?" "Yes" "I cannot see anything" "Well, you are 20/50 and technically legal." "TECHNICALLY?!?!?" "Yes." "And I am going to be able to work today?" "Yes." "Because I cannot see anything." So, I leave and drive onto the highway and immediately regret it. I drive home by memory. Set up my laptop and type with my nose to get my manager's number to let her know that I cannot come in. Today is Thursday and I am going to my eye doctor for the follow up. I am just now seeing my computer monitor without squinting from the brightness and can actually see letters now too. Go me! I have been told that in another week, I should be 20/20. I am so looking forward to it as I feel like I have been walking around without my glasses and just really want to put them on so I can see. One more week…
